The natural state of our mind is to be at peace yet the tension one feels when it is not is a direct result of the discomfort created by the busyness of modern living. It is fact that our memory and creativity is at its best when in a relaxed state. Our minds are more capable of processing ideas and we are generally more in control when our body’s are at peace. It is the nature of sleep, of true happiness and needed for healing. Being in a relaxed state allows you to put your life into the perspective of a whole - of a world in which you are a part of where all is interconnected. Energy can be thought of as contagious in the way that it transfers easily from one person to the next. Just pay attention to someone that passes you in an oncoming vehicle. Without coming into contact with them, you sense their vibe. It is just a flash of a moment and yet it can impact you, if you are not consciously monitoring your vibration; you’ve heard the phrase “it rubs off on you”.... Through breath we can bring energy into our body. This is an ancient understanding forgotten all to often. Imagine as you inhale that you are gathering life supporting energy and that with every breath it purifies all of your body, mind and soul. There is no part of your being that this life force energy cannot reach and inhabit. It is purifying, healing and life-giving. Everything that you do not want is purged with each breath; the stress, the tension, anger and fear. This is a very effective process but requires a heightened sense of awareness of your breathing. Despite your years on this earth, you haven’t likely mastered this most basic function of life. Continue reading...
My grandmother “Oma” is 89 years of age, is in great health, and has the aspiration to reach 100! I have shared with Oma some ways to obtain that impressive goal; cut down on gluten and avoid the vegetables that contain a chemical that can exacerbate inflammation. Recently, I checked in with Oma. She proudly reported that she avoids bread altogether and is staying away from those “moon vegetables”. She is adorable! Of course, she is referring to “nightshade” vegetables – those that contain solanine.
Solanine is a natural chemical found in nightshade plants/vegetables and some herbs. Most people can tolerate this chemical but many bodies that are in stress cannot, and the reactions manifests itself as an inflammatory response such as body aches, joint pain, and asthma.
How do you know when you need to avoid nightshades? If you have chronic inflammatory or degenerative conditions it can turn around debilitating pain to completely eliminate nightshades from your diet. These include tomatoes, potatoes and all pepper except black pepper. There are more and this diet plan only works if you are strictly avoiding everything that contains this chemical that you may be sensitive to. I can provide, upon request, a comprehensive list and wallet card listing all the foods and spices you need to avoid. The wallet card can be shown to restaurant chefs making it easier to adhere to the diet.
When it comes to weight loss counting calories may be a thing of the past, as a tried and failed attempt, an obsession, or somewhere in between…. Whatever the case, I want to make you aware of a couple pearls that may awaken a new drive to excel and beat the un-welcome weight once and for all.
Multiply your ideal weight in pounds (the number of pounds in which you’d like to weigh) by 10. This number calculated is the max amount of calories you will want to consume in a day if you are trying to lose weight. There are Apps to help keep track of your caloric intake. Online BMI (Body Mass Index) calculators can help you determine your percentage if body fat. It cannot take into account muscle mass, bone density etc. I do not recommend this tool to be used by anyone but the obvious out-of-shape and over-weight. For example, a weightlifter with more muscle mass may be overweight according to the BMI formula. Body Fat Percentage is the amount of body fat you store. If you know your body fat percentage the calculator will use the Katch-McArdle formula. BMI is simply your weight in (kilograms) divided by your height in meters squared.
You are underweight if your BMI is less than 18.5
you are in normal range if it is between 18.5 to 24.9, and
Overweight if your BMI is between 25 to 29.9 and
Obese if it is over 30.
One pound of body fat has 3,500 calories. This means in order to lose 1 pound of body fat in any given week, you need a deficit of 3500 caloric intake per week which comes out to be 500 calories/day. I think this is on the conservative side. However, paired with exercise and sauna-ing, it is reasonable.
All this aside, I find it easier to follow the Vital Diet Plan I’ve constructed in combination of the oldest form of research we have on blood chemistry and foods, the Blood Type Diet, ancient eastern wisdom and todays findings on healthy diets. It is the simplest way to compute all the information and weed out mis-conceptions. I am in the process of making it into an ebook and in the mean time you may get the information for free with a special time offer until the end of March 2019. My long-Distance Patient Plan is ½ off at only $45*. This includes a phone consult going over your recommendations based upon a Systems Survey (SS) (symptomology in connection with body systems).
*With this $45 dollar consult you receive the Vital Diet Plan, Holistic lifestyle tips and self-evaluation within this guide. You also receive a personalized report of the recommended whole-food derived supplements indicated by SS as needs to fulfill your nutritional deficits.
Other Drivers of Stubborn Weight
I’d like to focus on just two:
Health through education can be revitalizing! I say this because many people live with a condition too long simply out of not knowing what to do about it! With knowledge, you have the power to make some changes!
I use a term I made up called inflamm-aging because you can count on the presents of any chronic condition to contain a level of inflammation and also contribute to premature aging. Before the chronic condition arose, you can also bet there were also a handful of symptoms that are tale-tale signs of toxicity.
The immune system is our first line of defense when it comes to warding off germs and proper digestion is key for this immunity to function optimally. Everything from our wrinkles on our faces to the type of skin on our feet reflects digestion. If you would like to join the 3 week Virtual Tutorial series, you can learn more about it
What would it take to have a healthy glow from the inside-out that defies chronological aging? Start with digestive health. See the resource page HERE for starts! There are very specific enzyme formulas to address particular conditions. For instance, a craving for cold liquids or foods and/or a history of asthma or bronchitis indicates one set of enzyme deficiency verses symptoms of abdominal cramps after eating or undigested food visible in stools that are signs of another set of enzyme deficiency.
You may have noticed yourself or someone you are close to that has an intolerance of fats or spicy/fried foods by signs of burping, hiccupping and/or experiencing nausea, pain or discomfort under the right rib cage following the consumption of the above foods. This would indicate a need for liver support and cleansing, however the above listed symptoms can often be resolved just by adding an enzyme formula specific to the need with meals.
8 Underlying Disease Precursors
Functional medicine addresses core clinical imbalances that are precursors or underlying issues associated with disease:
300 years of functional medicine and nutrigenomics (including cell biology, toxicology, biochemistry, physiology, pathology, organic chemistry, microbiology and many, many more branches of the sciences) employ technologies to unveil the molecular disorders in immunological, neuropsychiatric, gastrointestinal and pathogenic causative factors to one’s health status.
Mindfulness based psychotherapies are now integrated into medical practices (of those healthcare providers that are interested in health vs symptom management) because of these findings of the gut microbiome (the “second brain”). Studies show the gut, emotions and physiology/pathology are inter-related. READ MORE
Like dreams, creativity arises from the unconscious. We have to create an empty space in our conscious minds for the unconscious to emerge with its gifts. Conditioning ourselves to quiet our minds and bodies is key.
An upcoming free event will cover some of the tools used in stress reduction and trauma recovery, specifically how to be high functioning while the trauma or high stress is occurring. Respond below or contact me privately for more details.
Dr. Axe states "After reviewing more than 60 studies related to biofeedback, The Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London described biofeedback therapy as a “non-invasive, effective psycho-physiological intervention for psychiatric disorders,” concluding that over 80 percent of studies reported some level of clinical decrease in symptoms as a result of biofeedback exposure. (1) According to their research, biofeedback interventions have been used successfully to treat common disorders including anxiety, autism, depression...". I do Biofeedback therapies in private sessions or groups for even more affordability. Groups also add additional healing dynamics. I'd highly recommend trying it!
The awareness of epigenetics is on the rise, even in the allopathic medical model. Dr Mercola talks about the human “being of energy, and as such, you have an electromagnetic component to every biological process. Every thought or feeling produces a complex shift in the biochemical make-up of your organs”. Also in Dr Mercola’s article, he refers to, Blair Justice, PhD, author of Who Gets Sick, stating how genes account for only 35 percent of longevity (and I would add the state of health). This leaves the remaining 65% to diet, exercise, stress management and other environmental factors the main player in well-being. This is encouraging due to it being in our hands and responsibility to choose wisely the things we do have control over. Stress management, nourishment and products (skin care for example) being the top three I see having the most impact. “The biofield is the term medical science has adopted for the intricately layered vibrational energy field that is said to surround and penetrate the physical body. For thousands of years, traditional, indigenous, pre-scientific medical systems have recognized a balanced, evenly pulsing biofield as the foundation of health and well-being”. If this balance is disrupted, it may cause illness of some sort. There are tons of therapies that focus on the restoration of this lack of balance through such methods as acupuncture, qigong, shiatsu, meditation and yoga, in addition to Reiki” – taken from Dr. Axe article referring to studies conducted by the School of Mind-Body Medicine at Saybrook University in San Francisco and the Department of Psychology at Loyal University in New Orleans.
For now remember this simple reminder. I also would love to see you for the absolutely free event to learn more about what is offered to help you achieve a healthy state of balance or equilibrium. Also be sure to view my latest HealthEnews for brain health through both diet and and emotional well-being!
The adrenal glands are evolved in many aspects of health. When the adrenals are insufficiently functioning (hypoadrenia) they do not produce and regulate sufficient amounts of hormones. This is often referred to as “burnout”, “adrenal exhaustion or fatigue”.
There are many repercussions of adrenal fatigue such as hormonal imbalances, kidney dysfunction, and decreased immunity. However possibly the most common cause of adrenal fatigue (a wide spread problem) is modernized living. Face it; life is complicated packed full with deadlines, appointments, and every day stress and irregular eating habits. I have witnessed even the smallest of children suffer the effects of adrenal fatigue. Even babies can be predisposed to this devastating dysfunction due to the mother’s status during pregnancy. The adrenal glands are the most endangered glands due to chronic stress and can be treated with adrenal glandulars. Adrenal fatigue is regarded as a deficiency in the kidneys in Chinese Medicine the kidneys are considered to be the root energy of the body. The improper function of the kidneys is due to the relationship between the adrenals and kidneys. Kidney Yin building herbs such as Rehmannia root taken for a period of 60 to 120 days is the initial treatment, followed by Kidney Yang tonics such as Fenugreek, Damiana, spicy leaves combined with cinnamon, dried ginger and lemon peel as a tea; and Ashwaganda capsules. Dietary recommendations include avoiding raw and cold foods to support digestion and assimilation of the nutrient rich vegetable stocks, curry dishes, and delicious Thai food. Evaluate your adrenal status below.
Adrenal Stress Test
If you have 3 or more of these symptoms you may have an adrenal hormonal imbalance. See a qualified alternative practitioner for nutritional support. I usually recommend adrenal glandulars, specifically from Standard Process and de-stressing techniques along with the regular nutritional support based on testing.
Our bodies are working extra hard unnecessarily; (liver, lymphatic system, kidneys and more), impairing your immune system and causing toxic overload.
Easy steps you can take to improve your health – and the health of those around you!
1 Eliminate products that contain toxic synthetic fragrance in the following:
2Become more informed on this topic and know the effects of how exposure to synthetic fragrances has increased your body’s burden.
100% of perfumes contain toluene that causes liver, kidney and brain damage in adults — imagine the effects on the fetus and our developing children! Now think of the pandemic of autism....
Chemicals in fragrances are known to cause the following:
When you feel out-of-sorts, it makes you less tolerant of things you wouldn't otherwise have a reaction to. Face it, we are generally more irritable when we don't feel well; this is evident when we have the cold or flu. Children, and often times adults, don’t often connect that something caused a reaction. Triggers can span from emotional reactions to a rash or feeling like you’re coming down with a cold, when in reality a synthetic chemical caused an immune response.
Wouldn’t it make life easier not to have to deal with defiant behaviors, emotional outbreaks and acute diseases in your children? I encourage you to rid your home of everyday products containing synthetic fragrances. See how much better your family feels!
Happy spring cleaning!
PS Those afflicted with autism and disorders along that spectrum experience measurable benefits from cleaning up their environments
Using natural means of recovery requires enough knowledge about it to easily assess and apply. When it comes to Parenting we often forget how, what and when to utilize these easy, affordable and effective healing remedies. Fear takes hold... You know how it is; "I wish I..." "I could have", and " why didn't I" flood your mind after the fact.
We are now offering the fam plan! A small monthly charge for health advice whenever and as needed!
We've all been there
Always have water with you! A good quality source of water to keep hydrated, I find that when with me, I drink it! You can't go wrong there!
Spring can inspire us to be out and about more which also brings the challenge around eating. Choosing quality over quantity is valuable and wise, being over eating is a cause of disease! In the roughly 6 minute video above I mention some of the tricks I use to be prepared. Here are some more:
A quick bite to satisfy the need for fuel can include the following:
*A whole food meal replacement bar and green food (drink or capsules)
*A smoothie made with a quality protein and organic whole foods
*A probiotic drink and fiber including a supplement or in the form of raw veggies
As for fats – it’s all about balance
here is the ideal proportion (per day):
1 T polyunsaturated fat (flax, black currant seed oil, evening primrose, borage, cod liver oil)
4T mono-unsaturated fat as in olive, Sesame seed oil, avocado, nuts and seeds as well as lard
6T Saturated fat in the form or butter and coconut oils. Butter everything and cook with coconut. Saturated fats include fats attached to beef or lamb and dairy products such as buttermilk and yogurt.
Awareness is the key-
Knowledge is power ~ so our approach is to provide you with an advanced assessment, educate and support your individual needs!
Okay, 2018 has begun! Are you moving forward with absolute certainty your will aligns with your higher self and your soul’s purpose? First step - rate your satisfaction level these areas:
Surveys tell us the top 3 ultimate desires are:
Step two - take the plunge with full awareness and with a built-in self-care method; do the following statements resonate with you?
Your breathing is affected by your thoughts, and your thoughts and physiology are influenced by your breath. For example, when your mind is calm, your breathing is deep and rhythmic, and your body engages in its natural self-repair mechanisms. On the other hand, when your mind is caught up in fearful thoughts, your breath may speed up and become shallow, while your body increases the production of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin. When you’re feeling anxious, if you focus on taking a few deep, slow breaths, you will feel your body relax and it will be easier to shift your thoughts from fear-inducing scenarios to more positive expectations.
Conscious breathing is one way to integrate your mind-body-soul. With regular practice, it will help you cultivate a clear, peaceful mind and a vibrant, healthy body. There is a growing body of scientific research documenting the benefits of practicing conscious deep breathing on a regular basis, including:
Helping you experience deeper states of calm and expanded awareness, deeply breathing can have a profound effect on your over all health. It is also a way to detoxify! Here is how.
As you begin, always remember to move through the exercises slowly and mindfully. I invite you to begin right now by taking a deep breath, feeling your lungs fill with air and exhaling in gratitude. Your life begins with an inhalation, and you will take about half a billion breaths before your final exhalation. Most of the time, you probably aren’t aware of your breath, yet it sustains you at the core, reaching every cell in your body.
Have you ever been in a fender bender? How about pressure and deadlines at work? Are you in a position where you are often the first point of contact for a disheveled, upset, or injured individual? I’d say being a parent fits the bill! Office staff take on a huge load of tasks along with the influx of customers. The medical community are among the top high stress jobs along with police force and anyone else responsible for other's lives.
What I notice is that we excel at a much favorable rate when we talk to others about our experiences. Sharing ourselves, gets us to our end goal faster, and with more ease! We are designed for each other, to serve and receive. This is the way of true fulfillment! Read more...
When two or more are present, spirit is also! Lets immerse in this age-old activity – to gather and discuss matters of the heart, and pause to contemplate; which targets the root causes of stress.

Balancing and integrating our mind, body and spirit is the work of the group healing 5 week course called the Immersion Program. The sensations meditaion is to keep (for enrollees – click here if interested, its not too late!) and listen to as much as you’d like (found in the PowerPoint). We discussed techniques to ground and why it is so important! We touched on the stress response and what can activate the parasympathetic system to induce “happy hormones” in order to come out of the physiological effects of stress/trauma. There was so much packed into this session which we will review next week.
The Deepening practice is to jot down your thoughts, feelings, your story…. Simply allow what ever your system comes up with to be heard!
This improvised version (due to leaving my computer at home), I thought it went beautifully, perfectly well! Let me know your thoughts!
Lots of Love,
In our modern, fast-paced world, taking care of yourself can be yet another thing over whelming your your never-ending do-do list. While we re-learn the lifestyle habits that once made health easy and natural, we may need to get better organized so we can return our attention to our natural state of self-care. One way to do that is to create a Health History Timeline.
On this timeline, you record a snapshot of your health history including events that may have altered your state of health, your past and present health practices, any health challenges you may have encountered, and the health of your family; all items that make up your physical life story.
Paying attention to your health is paramount. It comes before everything. Because, if you don’t have your health, nothing else matters.
Why do you need a health timeline? Taking the time to create a Health History Timeline has many benefits:
✓ Uncovers root causes of your current and past symptoms
✓ Tracks disease progression and recovery
✓ Creates a baseline for your recovery - where did you start?
✓ Charts your progress and successes - how far have you come?
✓ Serves as a quick snapshot for any new practitioners or doctors that you add to your team so they can quickly get up to speed
✓ Allows you to record and remember your health history when you need that information
✓ Rather than explaining and racking your brain trying to remember the answers, a Health History Timeline saves you and your healthcare team time that would be better spent addressing your health concerns
✓ Allows you to compare what therapies you have tried, your state of health then and now, the health of your family as a whole, testing methods and results, etcetera
✓ Assists you to make a plan to address root causes, which will inform your recovery and help you to overcome your health challenges rather than simply coping with the symptoms

Serotonin, previously thought of as a hormone, that is known as neurotransmitter in which 95% of is actually made in the lining of the gut rather than in the brain. It is what anti-depressants drugs like Prozac work off of. Our body’s make serotonin from the amino acid tryptophan. However, tryptophan needs vitamin B6, and B6 needs sufficient amounts of zinc for B6 to convert into an active form where it works as a co-enzyme and to make tryptophan effectively, thus make serotonin.
There is plenty of talk about vitamin B deficiencies and the popularity of vitamin B supplements. Many vitamins, and especially the B’s are some of the most toxic, synthesized from petroleum. I warn against self-administering supplements that are not whole-food sourced. This is a big topic. For more information: see article (pdf) for the four primary ways to determine if your supplements are made from food or toxic carcinogenic substances.
Keep in mind that many supplements off the shelves of the stores are owned by the pharmaceutical companies. These larger companies are owned by Big Pharma, and there are hundreds of them. They are able to buy greater quantities, thus demand lower cost from less developed countries. This demand is dollar driven, quality doesn’t factor in. A quick gauge on this is of the price. This is truly one of those things that the famous saying "you get what you pay for" really applies. If you are getting professional grade supplements that do third party testing for quality, you are generally in good hands. See article entitled Nutrients and Assimilation for more information on this.
As you may know, trace minerals are essential for the function of the cells. You may be wondering how best to get your much-needed zinc if you already can’t digest and assimilate efficiently? Major Mineral Mix is a liquid mineral supplement that does not require any digestion or breakdown of any kind because the particles are so small. It is called “angstrom sized” meaning smaller than the cells of the body. This can be applied topically and absorbed through your skin, or taken orally. Tasteless and clear, these minerals are the smallest size available and the body knows what to do when the digestive tract doesn't!
These minerals can be ordered to suite your needs. I highly recommend Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis and custom minerals based on these results! However, without the test, a good blend of all the essential minerals can be yours for a 1-3 month supply, depending on how much you take, for just $35. Major Mineral Mix (16 ounces) is an ionic (charged and ready for the body to utilize) liquid, tasteless, 100% absorbable and vital for health!
Chinese medical protocols, administered correctly can have a great impact on the healing process and act as a re-set. Some of us look for that magic bullet with promises of hope applying very little effort. Long-term supplement plans can feel too expensive over time or we just get tired of taking a handful of pills day after day. How does one or two weeks of taking just one herbal remedy sound? This may be truly as simple as it sounds. For instance, if someone comes to me with a gut related issue, through my evaluations, I may find the liver Qi is stagnant. In which case, one herbal tonic may resolve the whole host of symptoms that otherwise may have cost that patient with the same scenario months of treatment in working to address the presenting main symptoms of, say heartburn/acid reflux, constipation alternating with loose stools and frequent stomachaches only to have a re-occurrence later. In this case, because these gut symptoms were relatively acute (not long-standing), supporting the liver provided just enough correction to the underling cause.

When treatment is miss-addressed, or handled in such a sway that goes against natures order of healing (from below up), you will find that, over the course of time different conditions will occur above (positionally in the body) from the previous or original condition. The exact opposite is true for healing. Shifts made in the energy body, and functionality with the systems in the physical body will present themselves as a course of healing action when different conditions begin to move down the body. This is especially the case for anyone with chronic health issues. This is the value of working with a practitioner trained in the healing art of Chinese Medicine.
Nearly 60,000,000 Americans suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, migraine headaches and fibromyalgia. Approximately 1/3 of them suffer moderate to severely debilitating symptoms, are refractory to standard therapies, and are actively seeking a solution for their illness. So, what do IBS, migraine, and fibromyalgia have in common?
In many cases, dietary triggers such as foods and food chemicals provoke symptoms. Numerous peer-reviewed controlled studies confirm this fact. Yet for the vast majority of physicians, diet remains one of the most overlooked and disregarded areas of treatment. A dietary problem requires a dietary solution. And that dietary solution is best administered by a practitioner extensively trained in food, biochemistry, and diets. If food and food chemicals play a role in making a patient ill, how can the patient get well without appropriately addressing diet? The truth is they can’t. That’s why so many patients suffering from these conditions are refractory to conventional drug therapies – because drugs don’t address the underlying problem. Since medications are the primary treatment modality used by most physicians, it’s unrealistic to expect any improvement in outcomes. Where is a starting place? Who is addressing these symptoms that arise to communicate a problem? Furthermore, who is able to discern what they mean? For instance, a Chinese physician looks at the tongue for clues as to what is happening, especially within the digestive system.
On your own you can use a food journal. Simply write down your intake and any effects. You will learn to take an active role in your healthcare and become more observant of subtle effects. Secondly, a thorough food sensitivity test provides you evidence and assurance of your own feels about what may be causing a biological upset within your system. My current favorite is with Alcat Labs.
“To heal, make whole.” This indicates that health is the ability to function in a unified way, in which all parts and living processes interact with each other in a complex, balanced exchange. Find out what blockages you have energetically with a biofeedback scan a therapy. If you are not sure about this and would like a sample session, I am offering these at
I think we can all agree that our current medical model has let us down in one way or another. Especially in the sense that we perpetually “prescribe drugs of which we know little about, for a condition we understand even less, to a human of the least known”.
